Ignored by most who profit off of mainstream electronic dance culture today, underground dance music was born out of LGBTQ+ communities of color and their need to express themselves, their identities and sexualities, openly and freely. This project aims to highlight the concurrent histories of what developed below-ground with dance music throughout the 60s–00s and the oppressive events that took place above-ground, in legislature, pop culture, and political movements.
